Plantation

Origin : The brainchild of Alexandre Gabriel's Cognac Ferrand, Plantation rum combines a number of the finest Caribbean rums with a double aging process in the cellars of Cognac Ferrand's Château de Bonbonnet in France.

In addition to the traditional aging of rum in used American Bourbon oak casks, a number of distilleries also age their rums in other used barrels such as sherry or cognac. It was though the relationships built by Cognac Ferrand, in shipping their cognac barrels to these distilleries that Alexandre Gabriel was able to discover some of the rich, aromatic and flavoursome small batch rums, originally intended either for the personal enjoyment of the distillery's Master Distiller or for blending in more generic consumer rums. Cognac Ferrand decided to bottle these special rums as a series of rare vintages.

Most of the vintage rums are a blend of rums from one or more distilleries in their country of origin and after being aged in Bourbon barrels at that distillery's cellars for a minimum of 8 years, they are shipped to Château de Bonbonnet in France to be aged for a further 6 months to 2 years in cognac barrels. This double aging gives the rums a more elegant, refined and rounded taste and is the defining principal of all Plantation rums.

"This "double aging" process brings an incomparable smoothness and fullness to this rum. The intense flavours of vanillas, ripe banana, sugar cane, and roasted coconut are very present and this taste remains for a remarkable length of time."

Comments : With only 350 bottles of Plantation's Pineau Des Charentes Cask Finish produced, this great limited edition rum is likely to be as collectable as it is drinkable.
