Base Spirit : Vodka
Created as recently as the 1970's, this modern cocktail appears to have initially found fame in the American Mid-West before gaining popularity in the likes of New York and San Francisco. Like many cocktails, there seems to be some dispute as to the origin and its creator. Among those named are: Neal Murray, Cheryl Cook, and Toby Cecchini. Source: Wikipedia.
Recently back in vogue after being ordered by Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw, as her drink of choice in the hit American television show Sex in the City.

Cosmopolitan
Chill the Cocktail Glass by filling the glass with Ice and topping up with tap water. Using the Sharp Knife, cut off a piece of Peel from a fresh Orange - it should resemble a penny in size and shape. Lastly, use the Juicer to extract the juice of half a Lime.
Half fill the Cocktail Shaker with Ice before pouring in the Vodka, Triple-Sec, Cranberry and Lime Juices. Shake the mixture until a layer of ice forms on the outside of the shaker. Empty the iced water from the Chilled Cocktail Glass, before straining the contents of the shaker into the glass.
Carefully holding the Orange Peel between your finger, use the Lighter to heat the outside of the orange peel, for approximately five seconds. This will allow the oils in the orange peel to be released with ease. Now hold the flame over the glass and quickly pinch the peel between your fingers, which should squirt the oils through the flame and over the top of the drink.
Float the orange peel on the surface of the drink to garnish. To finish the look before serving, take the Short Drinking Straw and wet one side of it with tap water, before carefully placing it against the side of the glass. The water should make the straw stick to the glass.
