Simple Syrup

Base Spirit : Non
Used in many cocktails, Simple Syrup is a key ingredient. Also known as Syrup de Gomme* and Sugar Syrup, you can either buy it as an off the shelf product or simply make it yourself.
* Please note that Syrup de Gomme also contains gum arabic, which acts as an emulsifier and stops any crystalisation that can occur when sugar syrup is left for a period of time.
Ingredients
  • 16 Tablespoons (1 Cup) of Granulated Sugar
  • 16 Tablespoons (1 Cup) of Water
  • Boiled Water for Steralization
Equipment
  • Saucepan
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Empty Glass Bottle
  • Funnel
Prepare the bottle by filling it with boiled water, thereby steralizing the bottle. Pour out the boiled water and leave it drain any excess water.
Add the Sugar and the Water to the Saucepan and while stiring the ingredients over a gas or electric stove. Once all of the sugar has disolved and the syrup has been brought to the boil, reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for 5 minutes.
Using the funnel, carefully pour the simple syrup into the steralized bottle. Leave to cool before adding the lid.
